In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Add softened butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
Cover and let rise for 30 minutes until the dough has risen above the edge of the pan.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
